The low-cost app can be used to capture accurate animation data comparable to that recorded using expensive traditional marker-based mocap systems, and without the need for facility space or sensor suits with reflective markers. The system is designed for use with inexpensive off-the-shelf equipment such as PlayStation Eye cameras, Xbox Kinect or Webcams. IPi Mocap software now has Kinect support and uses image processing and computer vision algorithms to recognize and track the human body without markers. iPi Mocap is compatible with many game engines, animation rigs and 3D software apps, including Cinema4D, Maya, 3DS Max, Daz Studio, Poser, Valve Source Engine, Unreal Engine, and Unity. The scalable solution was introduced a year ago and is available in an Express single Kinect camera version and as a more powerful Standard version with up to six PlayStation Eye cameras. VANCOUVER - iPi Soft (the Moscow-based software developer of marker-less motion capture technology, is showing the latest version of iPi Desktop Motion Capture at SIGGRAPH 2011.
